Vaccination Policy

DOGS

Dogs are vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus Listeriosis, and Parainfluenza.

Puppies can be given their 1st vaccination from 6 weeks of age. A booster is then required at 10 weeks or between 2-4 weeks after their 1st vaccination if this was given at 8 weeks or older.

Worming Policy

DOGS

Puppies are wormed from 3 weeks of age. They should be wormed every 2 weeks until 3 months old and then every 4 weeks until 6 months old.

Dogs over 6 months of age should be wormed every 3 months.

CATS

Kittens should be wormed from 3 weeks of age. They should be wormed every 2 weeks until 3 months old, then every 4 weeks until 6 months old.

Cats over 6 months should be wormed every 3 months.

Pre-Anaesthetic advice for Bridgend surgery

If your pet has been booked in for an anaesthetic, for an operation, dental, or diagnostic procedure, please:

  • Do not feed your pet after 8pm the night before
  • Remove its water bowl when you get up in the morning
  • Keep cats in overnight, to prevent hunting
  • Take dogs for a walk before coming in

Neutering Policy

DOGS

Female – if possible spay between 1st and 2nd season. However if circumstances are difficult, e.g. lots of stray male dogs about, they can be spayed from 5 months of age, but not whilst they are in season.

Male – castrate from 5 months of age.

CATS

Female – spay from 5 months of age.

Male – castrate from 5½ months of age.

Repeat Prescription Policy

  • Prescriptions Only Medicines, Category V, (POM Vs) are available from veterinary surgeons. A client may ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy.
  • A veterinary surgeon may only prescribe POM Vs for animals under his or her care.
  • The client must be informed, of the price of any medicine that may prescribed for their animal.
