Exciting opportunities to join our dynamic team at Shepherds the Vets, South Wales.
We are an independent and growing, small animal and exotics practice, with an accredited RCVS hospital and 3 branches.
We are proud to have a purpose-built hospital with all the facilities and equipment to enable us to deliver a gold standard level of animal care.
Due to continuing organic growth, we are currently looking to recruit a permanent veterinary surgeon.
The current practice team is made up of 14 vets. We have a supportive team with that works hard and socialises together, there is a healthy mix of newly qualified vets and highly experienced vets.
This means if you are newly qualified we have experience with training new grads and can support this exciting start to your career. We are a busy practice with a varied caseload, this has enabled some of our graduate vets to complete their PDP within a year.
For an experienced veterinary surgeon, we offer the opportunity to expand surgical experience through a busy and varied surgical list, gain sole charge experience at branch level, further enhance medical knowledge via our busy hospital ward and in-house emergency service. We are fully supportive further training ambitions and certificates are encouraged.
Our team contains multiple certificate holders, both vets and nurses. In addition, we collaborate with visiting specialists in cardiology and ophthalmology. As a result, we are very fortunate not to refer many cases and to provide a full and varied in-house service.
We have a great team of nurses who will support you. This includes a head nurse, a specialist theatre nurse, 8 RVN’s and 8 SVN’s. Our fantastic nurses are here 24-7 and answer our out of hour’s calls.
This means that your on-call duty only involves the actual emergency work.
We pride ourselves on providing a full out of hours’ emergency service and this is shared on a rota basis.
Weekend coverage is 1 in 4. However, the practice believes in true work live balance and to ensure our Vets get this balance right there are rota’ d days off after OOH work. While on call you have the support of a senior vet as “back up” to discuss cases, assist you and attend if required.
